Cinnamon Sugar Donuts

Happy National Donut Day! Apparently there are 2 National Donut Days (I am not mad about that) and today is the second one of the year. In honor of this wonderful holiday, I decided to make some healthy and delicious donuts. These donuts are incredibly easy to make and a fun activity to do with your kids! I made mine with whole wheat flour but you can make them gluten free by using any GF alternative. These are a very simple batter and can be enjoyed plain or topped with any of your favorite toppings. I am making mine cinnamon sugar but you can top them with peanut butter, chocolate, a maple or vanilla glaze, really anything you like would be delicious! If you don’t have a donut tin, don’t worry! These donuts can also be made as muffins!

Check out my YouTube Channel to see how they are made and to bake along with me!

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/3 cup of flour

  • 1/3 cup of sugar

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 banana

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 2 tbsp applesauce

  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees

  • In a large bowl mix all the dry ingredients (Flour, Sugar, Baking Soda, Cinnamon and Salt)

  • In a medium bowl mash the banana and then add milk, applesauce and apple cider vinegar

  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until combined (try not to overmix the batter)

  • Pour the batter into a zip lock bag, squeeze the batter to the bottom tip, cut the tip off of the bag. Use the bag to squeeze the batter easily into your donut tins

  • **Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes (until golden)

  • Let cool for 5 minutes before removing from tins

  • While donuts are cooling mix cinnamon and sugar together in a bowl

  • Remove donuts from tin and dredge in the cinnamon sugar

    • Optional: instead of cinnamon sugar, can drizzle with melted chocolate, peanut butter, powdered sugar glaze or nothing at all!

** if making muffins, bake for about 17 minutes
